Painting, Haircuts, mani-Pedi’s and new friends……..

Fun filled action packed kinda day today. Made for a long fun day~! For the first time since we got on the island…. I set my alarm to get up early enough to get to my painting project ‘early’ (07:00)……. I forgot just how bad I hated waking up before I was ready to wake up, and while it wasn’t the 03:45 that I got up to for 17 years…… it sucked equally as bad….. but I signed up for it and owned it~!  Showed up at the painting project and went straight to work, even though lack of paint and  other factors turned the day to a different direction -but managed to make the day productive and I left with a small feeling of accomplishment.

Came back to the condo to discover my Queen had made an appointment for a mani-pedi…… so we both got a shower and watched some JUSTIFIED until it was time to go. Not in the mood for nail care, I used the time to seek out a new barber shop as I was in desperate need of a haircut. After wandering for about 15 minutes, found a place Daniel (local bartender) recommended and went in got my ears lowered. Nice guy and was doing a good job with a straight razor on my neck – I asked if he did shaves – he did. Having never had a straight razor shave (or any other kind for that matter) by anybody other than Moi….. I wanted to try it. I was also in desperate need of a shave….. and in light of my impending birthday, I felt like that was the opportune time to give it a celebratory try. It’s a very unique feeling (for me anyway) to have a complete stranger holding what turned out to be a VERY sharp straight razor to your throat. The young man proceed carefully and thoroughly to scrape off about 4 days worth of beard, chatting away as he scraped that small forest off of my face. He then carefully wiped and dabbed a bunch of smell good stuff on all the shaved areas and presented a mirror for me to approve the work. I did…. I liked what I saw and enjoyed the experience. Guys – if you’ve never done that, I recommend it….. even if it is only once —  I will definitely do it again~! When he finished, I left and wandered around until I found the place I had left my Queen and she was just finishing up her manicure and getting ready for her “pedi”. I told her I would wait for her at the nearest bar.  I sat there for what seemed like 3 days, drinking crown and staring out at that gorgeous water (we were downtown on the board walk)…. I sat there for what was realistically probably an hour and a half and watched the throngs of humanity stroll by. Fascinating~~! The sizes, shapes, colors and overall appearances of all of them. I tried to figure out if they were locals, or tourists, or temporary people on the island. Mix that in with the occasional pelican flying by, the Sea plane taking off (and eventually landing again) What an absolutely wonderful way to spend a couple of hours……..

Well hells bells……. I’m already at my 500 words and haven’t even got to the part about new friends we made……. in the interest of brevity, I’m gonna stop here. We are picking up new friends tomorrow to show them Point Udall before they fly out on Saturday. If tomorrow goes anything like today did…. should make for an interesting story…… so tune in again tomorrow friends, neighbors and sport fans…… same bat time, same bat channel…… 😉

Good night ya’ll…… Thankx for stopping in~!

Painting and shopping…….

Showed up again bright and early for painting detail this morning and went almost straight to work. Putting on an oil base paint over top of a latex paint….. never a good idea, but not my call. Paint doesn’t ‘take’ very well (blue over white), so will probably have to do another coat. Finished the whole back quarter of the building that gets the blue color (over the cooking area). Rest of the area will be white over white……. picked up a small Porter Power painter. Going to try and shoot it and see if that works any better. There is a ton of nooks and crannies and getting into them with a brush is dang near impossible. Sprayer should work much better, giving a better looking paint job and take a fraction of the time. If it works as good as I suspect – I’ll probably shoot the blue area instead of brushing it a second time. Finished up the painting in time to help put the bar back together for opening at 11:00 and then headed back to the condo.

Loaded up my Queen and headed out for some shopping in preparation for the arrival of our oldest Daughter and her family this weekend. Geez Louise – I had no idea we needed that much stuff~! Not saying we spent a lot of money, but K-mart went ahead and closed up after we left saying they had made their quota for the day  😉    But we have everything we should need for the impending visit…… goggles, snorkels, masks, noodles, swimmies and various other fun stuff needed to enjoy the water world available when they get here  🙂

After we got Double D’s unloaded, we headed up to Blues for a bite to eat and a couple of drinks. I had my Smoked Turkey, Bacon and ranch sammich and my Bride had some wings. After filling our bellies, we headed back for some binge watching of a new series we were told about by former neighbor Vera J.   Series is called Justified. It supposedly ran on FX – but I never saw it advertised. Don’t know how I missed it, but it is a very entertaining show about a slick (and fairly decent looking) U.S. Marshall working in Eastern Kentucky. Funny, entertaining and well produced. We just started the second series, not sure how many there are – but it is a nice change from Gordon Ramsey and his kitchen stuff. Getting ready for bed because I am going back for more painting and starting even earlier in the morning tomorrow and I need my beauty sleep (apparently a LOT more than I have been getting). I don’t have hardly any ‘new’ pictures to put up – so will load some older ones that I enjoy — I hope you do too.

Good night ya’ll — Thankx for stopping in~!

No painting for you~~

Got up and started early to report in for my painting detail this morning only to be turned away at the gate. Other guy had something come up that he had to tend to. I offered to stay and paint, but being a new guy and not very well known (by this guy) he didn’t want to leave me there by myself. So I loaded up in Double D and headed back to the condo. My Queen had busied herself with laundry, so I settled in to take care of a couple of hospital bills (from a freakin’ YEAR ago) that I got in the mail yesterday. They said insurance didn’t pay it. I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with hospital and insurance people trying to hash that crap out. Still haven’t got it resolved yet, but am getting closer….. I hate messin’ with that stuff.

Launched into getting a new printer set up. I thought I had it done… but that’s what I get for thinking…..After another on line with tech support, printer is now successfully installed and working as it should….. yay~!

Finished up by getting finishing touches done on the porch – patching is done, and painting. Gave the floor one last good sweeping and put my grill back in it’s rightful place. I was a little bit dismayed to find out a good portion of the grill had started rusting already. Being this close to the water is a real challenge keeping any kind of metal rust free. I cleaned it all off again and applied a real good layer of furniture polish on the affected surfaces. I want to look around at local stores and see if they have some kind of polish or wax that will at least help ward off the effects of sea salt.

I ordered me a shirt off of FB back on Friday and danged if it didn’t show up here at our mailbox today~! I very rarely ever order anything I see on FB, but took a chance with this one. First off, amazed it got here so quick…. and it is actually a quality shirt~!

My painting guy just called to say that he will be at Blues bright and early tomorrow morning to try and get the painting knocked out early (they open back up tomorrow) – so guess I’m gonna crash early and get some rest for painting and putting the bar back together by 11:00 tomorrow. Woo-hoo~!!

Good night ya’ll ….. Thankx for stopping in~!

Puttin’ in some manual labor……

Volunteered to help with some ‘Spring’ cleaning at our favorite hangout (Blues Backyard BBQ) — Spent all morning and a small part of the afternoon, spraying down the inside of the bar and then power washing it. I was on the spray detail – spraying it with a mix of water and bleach. I had forgotten just how bad that mix burns when it drips into your eyes…. I did have my sunglasses on as a menial source of eye protection, but would get the occasional drip in behind my glasses. Dammit Emmit that stuff burns. Also managed to almost completely bleach out my deck shoes. Another guy was coming behind me with the power washer. Once I was finished spraying, I stayed busy moving stuff around for him, pulling mats, refilling washer with gas, and just kind of whatever needed done. I also came to the realization, that it’s been dang near a year since I did any kind of physical activity (of the work type) and had to accept the fact that I’m not near as used to it now as I thought I would be……. wow….. but it felt good to be doing something constructive. Afterward, I came home, washed all the bleach out of my eyes and off of me….. took a couple of aspirin and am good to go. Going back tomorrow for the paint detail…… provided I can get out of bed in the morning~ 😉

Good night ya’ll — Thankx for stoppin’ in~!

Clouds, wind and rain…….

Woke up to a bunch of gnarly gray clouds this morning….. they were in and out, seemed like every 5 minutes. By the time we had finished breakfast though… rain came in along with those clouds and 15-18 knot winds… The wind and rain were getting it. I could have stood out on the patio all day and watched the sea. Some seriously huge waves crashing in on our beach today~! Also fun to watch the big bands of rain coming across the water. Fascinating~!!

I seriously need to get out and start doing something. Besides the fact I’m blowing up like a balloon – I don’t have a heckva lot to share with you all. Including today — so I snapped a couple of pictures, just so I’d have something new to put up here. Will be working on the porch tomorrow – hopefully finishing it off, so will have to see what, if anything I can come up with for you then.

Good night ya’ll —- thankx for stopping~!

Almost mirror image of yesterday…..

Electrician finished up his work today — maintenance dude is still working on the masonry… sure will be glad when all this crap is done and we can get back to running amok.

We did run up to Blues for a drink and a bite to eat – which turned into a drink and a drink, and a drink – oh yeah, and a drink…….  😉

Snapped a couple of pictures of the sunrise this morning, with rain clouds just off to the side of it — made for a really pretty morning to wake up to.

Good night ya’ll — thankx for stopping in~!

Cleaning and maintenance…

Had maintenance guys and electricians in here most of the day trying to get this place in the shape we want it. I worked on more stained floors while the other guys did their thing so not a heckva lot to share with you again today.

Good night ya’ll …. Thankx for stopping in~!

A couple of pictures that error’ed out on me last night…..

Floor cleaning

I spent almost the entire day working on the floor of our patio. It is horribly stained with rust spots from furniture with metal legs. I don’t really think you’re gonna be interested in the details of it and I’m not gonna bore you by telling you about it. I’m gonna see if I can get the pictures from last night to load.

Good night ya’ll …. Thankx for stopping in~!

Woo-Hoo~!!! We have internet~!!!!

I was up inexplicably early this morning, and while my Queen slept in from a rough night of battling of what can only be described as White Castles revenge, I took off for a stroll around the neighborhood. It didn’t take me long to wind up on the beach and enjoying that stroll when a small rain shower popped up. I was entirely too far away from the house to try and run back for cover – and who are we kidding here…..me run…. Hahahaha….. so I carried on with my stroll while the small rain shower turned into a pouring rain being driven by 20+ mile per hour winds. The wind was also picking sand up off of the beach and was inflicting a whole lot more pain on my bare legs than I cared to deal with – so I cut across the closest strip of yard that I could find. Almost fell over a no trespassing sign, but didn’t have anyone yelling or shooting at me, so I carried on until I got off of the property. The rain had quit  by then so I continued on with my walk, rousing dogs and the occasional rooster.

Got back to the condo just as my bride was getting up and we had a cup of coffee and sat and watched the waves rolling into our beach. Later we had a nice breakfast and just hung out at the house doing odds and ends. One of the places we wanted to go today wasn’t open – so we decided to wait until tomorrow and get everything in one trip. We did find out there will be some maintenance work going on – on our porch – so not sure if we have to be here for that or not. AND – we got our internet connected today~!!!Wooo-Hoo~!!! … and it actually seems to be fairly decent internet [so far]~!! So I should be able to start loading pictures again on a regular basis~! Speaking of which – I’m anxious to see how well the internet works loading pictures onto this (seems like it takes more effort to get them into this website than other places) – so with that, I will bid ya’ll a good evening — and thankx for stopping in~!

UN_FREAKIN‘ believable…… I checked 20 pictures to load – all of them except 3 gave me an  HTTP error~!!! Gonna have to see if I can figure out what the issue is…. more later~~
